The students of Landmark College, Ikorodu have elected new prefects into various positions.
The announcement of the new student leaders came after a free and fair election conducted by Landmark College Prefectship Electoral Commission, LAPECO.
As the current SS3 students round off their examinations, not less than seventeen (17) among the current SS2 students keenly contested their favourite positions.
The prefectship election, which was held in the school on Thursday June 23, 2022, followed due electoral processes.
The candidates rolled out well-planned manifestos after days of rigorous electioneering, soliciting the overwhelming support of fellow students.
Announcing the results during the morning assembly on Friday June 24, 2022, the LAPECO Chairman, Mr Felix Dada, appreciated the electoral officers for the peaceful conduct of the election. He also commended the staff and students for voting for their preferred candidates.
"I must appreciate you all. This is truly symbolic of nobility. It shows we are conscious of the fact that leaders should be elected and not selected," the chairman stated.
"We have truly done well. Thank you all," he added.
Speaking at the assembly, the school Principal, Mr Sanni Jamiu, commended LAPECO. He stated that it was a reflection of how a peaceful election should be conducted.
"We have all won. However, I wish to encourage you to remain true nobles of Landmark College. This is a call to duty. And it is better not to be elected than to be removed as prefects," the principal said.
"You need to be responsible so that your junior ones can emulate you. Exhibit good character at all times," Mr Sanni stated.
He also implored the students to respect the new leaders, stressing that "on no account should any one of them disobey the lawful instructions of the prefects".
"Always showcase the nobility in you," he implored.
The principal announced that the swearing-in date will be communicated soon.
Present during the announcement were the acting vice-principals, the staff, students and the outgoing prefects.
