Landmark College in Ikorodu hosted its 14th Inter-House Sports Competition on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the school's sports arena.
The event, hosted by Mr. Isiaka Oyebamiji, the college Chairman and CEO, drew attendance from parents and invited schools.
Chaired by Mr. Chinedu Owen Okpara, the occasion featured various athletic activities, including javelin throw, discus throw, high and long jump, shot put, races, and tug of war.
The chairman of the event conveyed his satisfaction with the meticulous organization of the event.
He said, "I am delighted to be a part of this meticulously orchestrated event, which is not only enjoyable, particularly for the children who radiate joy, but also holds the potential to inspire their future career choices in sports. Their enthusiastic participation is evident, and I believe it can sow the seeds for a future in sports.
"I extend my commendations to the school's management, dedicated staff, and the organizing committee for their exemplary efforts in putting together this event. I authoritatively assert that this school stands among the best in Nigeria."
Mr Sanni J.A, the school Principal, expressed gratitude to parents and guests, emphasizing the importance of sports in students' academic growth. He highlighted ongoing efforts in sporting activities, projecting the completion of a football academy by the next year.
"We are advancing significantly in our athletic pursuits, and I am confident that by the upcoming year, the culmination of our efforts will materialize in the completion of our football academy."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "Recognizing the pivotal role of sports in fostering academic growth among our students, we strive to create an enabling environment that allows them to discover and develop their athletic identities."
Soliciting support for the Landmark College Football Academy, Mr. Sanni outlined the construction plans for a state-of-the-art pavilion, a main bowl, and synthetic artificial grass.
He appealed for financial support from the parent community to ensure the project's success, expressing gratitude in anticipation of their cooperation.
He said, "The significant project currently underway, the establishment of the Landmark College Football Academy, is designed to fulfill the athletic aspirations of students spanning various classes.
"The ongoing construction encompasses the development of a state-of-the-art pavilion, complemented by a main bowl and synthetic artificial grass.
"These facilities are meticulously planned to provide a conducive environment for fostering sports excellence.
"Undoubtedly, the scale of this project is vast, and its success is contingent upon the collective support of our dedicated parent community. We earnestly seek your invaluable financial support to ensure the seamless realization of this ambitious venture.

According to the principal, the football academy is set to be inaugurated by veteran footballer Mr. Segun Odegbami, as confirmed by the principal.
A parent, Mrs. Omotola Olashina-Sadiq, praised the school's management and staff for the well-organized event, expressing her excitement and longstanding connection to the competition.
She conveyed, "I am genuinely thrilled to be present here today. My connection with this competition dates back to its earlier location at the University of Lagos, Akoka. This event holds immense sentimental value for me, providing a source of ecstasy and anticipation owing to its consistently high level of organization.
"I extend my heartfelt well-wishes to Landmark College; my affection for the school is profound, considering that all my children are proud attendees of this esteemed institution."
Another parent, Mr. Seye Awojobi, applauded the school for its moral training and academic excellence, stating that the Inter-House Sports Competition is a favorite event. He commended the management, parents, staff, and children for their support.
Expressing his sentiments on attending the event for the first time during the 14th Inter-House Sports Competition, the attendee articulated, "I am pleased to be part of this occasion, marking the annual tradition of sports excellence within the institution.
"My pride in this school extends beyond its academic prowess; it stands as a beacon of moral training and overall excellence. As a learning environment, it seamlessly nurtures students, fostering their social, cultural, moral, and academic development.

The college sports director, Oluyemisi Odusoga, acknowledged the importance of sports in students' academic lives and assured continued support for their athletic aspirations.
Highlighting the significance of sports in academic performance, Odusoga articulated, "We recognize the pivotal role sports play in shaping the academic achievements of our students. Consequently, we are actively creating opportunities that empower them to attain their goals."
Expanding on the commitment to supporting students' athletic aspirations, he affirmed, "The college remains unwavering in its dedication to bolstering the athletic dreams of our students, ensuring continuous support in their pursuit of excellence."
The students were grouped into four houses—Lily, Ixora, Viola, and Zinnia.
Lily House secured the first position, Viola claimed second, and Zinnia took the third spot.
The audience enjoyed performances by the school orchestra and calisthenics routines.
Notable personalities in attendance included gospel artiste, Evangelist Esther Igbekele, Landmark College Chairman and CEO Mr Isiaka Oyebamiji, Thames Valley College Chairman and CEO, Alhaji Nurudeen Fagbenro, and Landmark College board member Mrs Margaret Ademosu, among others.
